Donald is a theoretical and computational neuroscientist with more than 20 years of private industry experience in information technology, especially data and machine intelligence. He was founder of successful high-tech start-up companies including Brainstage Research, Inc., where he created a commercial platform used to aggregate the world’s life sciences and medical data. Brainstage Research, Inc. was sold in 2007 and reincorporated as Brainstage, Inc. Donald served as Chief Science Officer of Brainstage, Inc. where he continued to lead the development of its software platform until January 2010. Currently Dr. Doherty is a research scientist at State University New York, Downstate Medical Center.
Dr. Doherty has a BS in Biology from San Diego State University and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California, Irvine. He has also held academic and research positions at Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
When he isn’t hiking with his two sons and daughter, Donald also loves to write books and blog posts on science, technology, and history.
